Connect Odoo to Microsoft 365 the Smart Way

In a company using both Odoo and Microsoft 365, it’s possible to automate and organise email flows without any additional licensing, thanks to two often-overlooked features:

  • Plus Addressing
  • Shared Mailboxes

Plus Addressing for Odoo

Plus Addressing allows you to add a tag to your email address. For example, starting with an address like:

support@yourdomain.com

You can use variations like:

support+projects@yourdomain.com

support+invoices@yourdomain.com

support+web@yourdomain.com

All these emails will be delivered to the same inbox, but in Odoo, you can distinguish them to:

  • Automatically create helpdesk tickets by project or team
  • Assign emails to specific sales teams
  • Link web forms or marketing campaigns to clearly tagged inputs

Microsoft 365 Shared Mailboxes

Microsoft 365 lets you create shared mailboxes that multiple team members can access (without needing an extra license) — perfect for addresses like:

support@yourdomain.com

billing@yourdomain.com

contact@yourdomain.com

These addresses are ideal for connecting to Odoo without creating real users.

Integration with Odoo

In Odoo, you can configure email aliases at different levels:

  • Projects (create tasks from incoming emails)
  • CRM pipelines (create leads or opportunities)
  • Helpdesk (create support tickets)
  • Accounting (receive vendor bills)
  • ...

Practical example:

You create a shared mailbox support@yourdomain.com and crm@yourdomain.com in Microsoft 365

You use aliases like:

  • support+myproject@yourdomain.com → will create tickets in “My Project”
  • crm+team1@yourdomain.com  → will be assigned to the your commercial Team 1

Result

Thanks to this approach:

  • You centralize communications without multiplying email addresses or accounts
  • You automate incoming email integration in Odoo
  • You improve cross-team collaboration while keeping your system clean and scalable
